Where thrifting becomes thriving.
At Friends & Family Thrifting, every donation given, every item sold, and every volunteer hour shared adds up to something bigger than a storefront. It adds up to Thriving — our commitment to turning the goodwill of our community back into tangible support for the people who live in it.
What is Thriving?
Thriving is the heart of our mission. The Thrifting side of our work generates the resources; the Thriving side puts those resources to work — directly, locally, and meaningfully — for our neighbors across Fayette County PA, Somerset Conty PA, Garrett County MD, Preston County WV and the surrounding communities we call home.
We believe a community is healthiest when its strengths circulate. Thriving is how we make that happen.
Who We Serve

Need doesn’t fit a single profile, and neither do we. Thriving is being built to serve a diverse cross-section of our community, including:
- Families navigating tight months or unexpected hardship
- Seniors living on fixed incomes
- Veterans and military families who’ve already given so much
- Students and young people working toward a brighter future
- Neighbors in crisis — anyone facing a sudden loss, illness, or transition
- Partners – We want to become partners with others who are already doing meaningful work.
If you’re part of this community, you’re part of who we’re here for.
What Thriving Will Provide
We’re in an exciting stage: the store is open, donations are flowing, and we’re learning every day what our resources can support. Rather than guess, we’re letting the work itself shape what comes next.
In the coming months, Thriving will roll out programs designed around the real, tangible needs we see emerging — things like household essentials, clothing assistance, school supplies, holiday support, and more, with potential to grow into deeper community partnerships as our capacity grows.
We’d rather build something that actually fits our community than promise something that doesn’t.
Thriving in Action:

Thriving is powered by everyone who walks through our doors. Here’s how to plug in:
🛍️ Shop with us — every purchase fuels the mission
💝 Donate items in good condition to keep resources flowing

💌 Stay tuned — as Thriving programs launch, we’ll announce them here and on our News and Facebook page.
Have a Need? Know Someone Who Does?
We’re not fully launched yet on the resource-distribution side, but we’re listening. If you or someone you know could benefit from Thriving — or if you represent an organization we should know about — please call 724-329-7771 or email info@friendsfamilythrifting.org.
A Last Resort – Submit a Friends’ Friends Foundation Needs Request
Before submitting a needs request, please first visit our community resources directory at resources.friendsfriends.org to search for established programs that may be better suited to meet your need. Many needs can be met more quickly and fully through existing services, so we encourage you to start there.
If no suitable program exists, you may submit a request through the Friends’ Friends Foundation. Please keep the following in mind before you apply: We rarely fund a request when the person making the request is also the beneficiary — requests are typically made on behalf of someone else. We rarely approve requests for cash; instead, we generally pay the provider of the product or service directly. Every request must be approved by a majority of the board before it can be funded. Funding approval and release of funds often takes days or weeks. IRS rules can limit or restrict how we spend/use Foundation funds.
