Your generosity is where it all begins.

Every shelf in our store starts the same way: with a neighbor who chose to give instead of toss. Your donations are the raw material of our entire mission β€” they’re what fills the racks for shoppers, what funds the Thriving initiatives that serve our community, and what keeps good items out of landfills and back into use.

When you donate to Friends & Family Thrifting, you’re not just clearing out closets. You’re putting something useful back into circulation, and turning your unwanted into someone else’s just-right.

Our Golden Rule

We have one simple test that guides everything we accept:

πŸ’› Would you give it to a friend? And would they happily accept it?

If yes, we’d love to have it. If you’d hesitate to hand it to someone you care about, please don’t pass it on to a stranger. We aim to offer dignity along with affordability β€” and that starts with what comes through our door.

What Makes a Great Donation

Before you pack up, give items a quick check against these three guidelines:

✨ Clean Wash, wipe, or dust before donating. Our volunteers can do quick touch-ups, but they shouldn’t be doing laundry.

πŸ”§ Complete & Working All pieces, all parts, batteries replaced if needed. If it plugs in or powers on, it should still do its job.

πŸ“ Shelf-Sized If it fits comfortably on a shelf or a clothing rack, we can take it. If it needs a truck to move it, we probably can’t.

What We Accept

Here’s the good stuff β€” items that fly off our shelves and into good homes:

Apparel Clothing β€’ Shoes β€’ Outerwear β€’ Scrubs β€’ Accessories β€’ Jewelry

Home & Kitchen Housewares β€’ Home goods β€’ Home decor β€’ Linens (no used sheets) β€’ Small/countertop kitchen appliances β€’ Small working electronics

Tools & Outdoor Small tools β€’ Lawn and garden items

Fun & Family Toys β€’ Games β€’ Puzzles β€’ Stuffed animals (clean) β€’ Pet items β€’ Children’s books

Specialty Antiques β€’ Diapers β€’ Non-perishable food items

🌽 Seasonal Bonus During harvest season, we gladly accept fresh home-grown produce to share with neighbors. If your garden is overflowing, ours is open.

πŸ₯« Heads up: Pantry-bound items

Non-perishable food, diapers, and personal hygiene items don’t go on our shelves for sale β€” they stock our Community Share Food Pantry, where neighbors take them for free, no questions asked. Donating these items has the most direct possible impact: a hungry family can walk out with dinner today.

What We Can’t Accept

We hate saying no, but space, safety, and resale realities mean some items just don’t work for us:

🚫 No furniture 🚫 No large appliances 🚫 No large electronics 🚫 No large exercise equipment 🚫 No books (except children’s books) 🚫 No used bed sheets 🚫 No items with significant wear β€” stains, holes, rips, tears 🚫 No items with missing parts or that are broken 🚫 No items larger than will fit on a shelf or clothing rack 🚫 No outdated or close-dated food

If you have items we can’t take, local options like the Salvation Army or Goodwill may be a better fit for furniture, large appliances, and adult books.

Where & When to Drop Off

πŸ“ Friends & Family Thrifting 4625 National Pike, Suite 1 Markleysburg, PA 15459

Look for the “Donation Drop-Off” signed entryway at the front of the building. Place your items inside the entryway β€” the doors are unlocked.

πŸ• Drop off anytime β€” day or night. The entryway is well-lit and monitored by cameras, so you’re welcome to drop off at whatever hour works for you. No appointment, no awkward timing, no waiting for someone to be there.

Tax Deductions & Receipts

Friends & Family Thrifting is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and your donations may be tax deductible.

A few things to know:

  • We’re glad to provide a donation receipt on request
  • It is the donor’s responsibility to determine and defend the “fair market value” of donated items
  • For specific questions about deductibility, please consult the IRS or your tax advisor

The Bottom Line

Every box you drop off has a ripple effect:

πŸ›οΈ Someone in our community gets quality goods at honest prices
πŸ’ The proceeds fund Thriving programs that serve real neighbors
🌱 A perfectly good item gets a second life instead of a landfill
❀️ Our volunteers get something meaningful to sort, fold, and price

Thank you for thinking of us. Truly. We couldn’t do any of this without you.
